My Friend Livia and I met at Bucknell University for Street Evangelization on March 27th. I set thing up for the coin rings, but I wasn’t advertising to the passersby as much as I normally do, so things were pretty slow, but that allowed Livia and I to catch up a bit and for me to hear about some of the good things God has been doing in her life recently. One of the many blessings of street evangelization is the wonderful people who join me and the friendships we’ve made.
After about an hour or so, a young man approached us who was parked next to our spot, and we got to talking. We offered to make a ring with him, and he accepted, but after a while, it became clear that he was more interested in conversation. This young man had recently moved back to Lewisburg after spending some time in a big city and feeling sort of lost there spiritually. He had been raised Christian, sort of, but didn’t know much about what Christianity actually taught, and he had recently developed a strong friendship with a girl who was a bit more serious about her faith. Livia and I both sensed not only a deep longing and curiosity about the faith, but also an openmindedness. We talked for about an hour.
As the first young man was leaving two freshman students stopped to talk. The one was Catholic and attended Mass at the university, but he was not very familiar with the Newman Center (the home for Catholic Campus Ministry). The other openly said he knew nothing about Christianity, and we were able to share with him the basic tenants of the gospel: creation, the fall, sin, redemption by the cross, repentance, and life in Christ and the Church. He said, “huh, yeah, that all makes sense. I’ll have look more into that stuff.” And I was happy that his friend was there and hope the two of them were able to continue the conversation.
